my clumsy body cannot seem to grasp how to stay up right
perhaps we really weren’t meant to be so precariously perched on two legs
center of gravity
our bodies fail us—
peripheral vision misses
the corner of the wall
our shoulder slams into it at a medium force
perhaps not even hard enough to bruise
but we arch our back
and reposition our legs
to make up for it—
one lapse in calculation and we stumble
maybe even fall
but here we are
tip toeing around
our lives
so carefully
balanced
