Poetry Prompt: Favorites

While looking for poetry starters, I often come across ones to write poems about "favorites."

Write about your favorite color
Write about your favorite letter
Write about your favorite word
Write about your favorite number
Write about your favorite day of the week
Write about your favorite time of day
Write about your favorite scent/smell
Write about your favorite sound
Write about your favorite birthday
Write about your favorite vacation

Sometimes these prompts will add a twist or catch to them.  Like when writing about your favorite color or time of day, don't mention them in the poem.  These twists help to make you more creative with your descriptions.

Here's my quick first draft attempt at a color poem.  Try one of these favorites out for yourself!

sky blue

the sunlight
changes you
makes you brighter,
richer

and whatever clouds
survive the sun
play contrast
against your hue

there are imitators
but they never live up to
the warmth of sunshine
and days playing outside

of swimming in lakes
and laying on beaches
of hiking through the woods
with pieces of you peeking through branches

you are the top of the world
you are the half
that represents the heavens
and our dreams

everything that floats
or flies or stands tall
exists among
you as a backdrop

you are hope
you are happiness
