New Year, New Goals

It's January and I'm just now posting a reflection to November's writing challenge.

I failed NaNoWriMo's page-a-day challenge again. I'm not sure how close I got (19 of 30 after looking). I did better than last year, but I know that November is a pretty terrible month for me to do a writing challenge.

But, without realizing (and not even having looked at my folder of poems from last year until today), I eked out my 60 poems minimum goal for the year. I am flubbing this just slightly because a handful of those poems are revisions from the great daily writing challenge of 2014 (say that last part like a movie announcer). But I made it through another year without neglecting my writing completely, and that's the most important part.

Another success I had this year, probably the biggest success, is that I finally got through the poems from 2014. This summer I finished reading and "triaging" them into categories so that I could work on them. I didn't get to too many revisions, but I did get to them, so progress!

One other goal I worked on was posting on this blog more often. I didn't quite get a post every month, but I definitely posted more than 12 times. So I hope I can keep that up. It feels a little like shouting into the void, but it's my void.

I hope I can improve a bit this year over last year. I plan to do the NaPoWriMo challenge for National Poetry month in April, and I plan to post short poems on Facebook again to promote poetry (it was so much fun last year, and it made my writing easier). Maybe I'll even try to post here a bit more regularly during April, too. Then I'll try to do NaNo in November, but I'm ok with substituting poems from the rest of the year to meet this goal again if necessary since I know from experience that it's just not a very good month for me. So at least 60 NEW poems for 2017. I also hope to keep plugging away at revisions. Perhaps I can set a goal of one revision a month (or 12 total) of revisions from 2014-2016 poems. 72 poems is a book of poetry every year. It's a pretty good goal.

What are your writing goals?
